About MyDeskForge
MyDeskForge exists because buying a desk is unreasonably hard. Every spec sheet says the same things, every review site ranks the same five products, and none of it tells you the one thing you want to know: will this desk annoy me every day for the next five years?
How we test
We assemble every desk ourselves, from the box, using only the instructions and hardware supplied. Then we load it with a realistic setup — two 27-inch monitors, a desktop machine, keyboard and lamp — and use it for weeks rather than minutes.
Specifically, we measure:
- Stability at full height under load, by typing normally and watching whether the monitors move.
- Height range from the desktop surface to the floor with the top fitted — not the frame-only figure manufacturers quote.
- Assembly time from opening the box to a working desk, by one person.
- Noise at the seated position through a full travel cycle.
- Warranty terms read in full, including the exclusions.
What we defer to
We test desks. We are not clinicians, and we do not pretend our own measurements settle health questions. Where an article makes an ergonomics or health claim, it follows published guidance and says so in the text, with a references list at the foot of the page. The sources we lean on most:
- Cornell University Ergonomics Web — workstation positioning and sit-stand guidance
- Mayo Clinic — office ergonomics for a general audience
- CDC / NIOSH — work-related musculoskeletal disorders
- Cochrane — how strong the evidence for sit-stand desks actually is
- NHS and the World Health Organization — sedentary behaviour and physical activity
- BIFMA — the furniture standards desks are tested against
Where the evidence is weaker than the marketing, we say so. A standing desk is a useful tool for breaking up static posture; it is not a health intervention, and we will not sell it as one.
How we make money
Some links on this site are affiliate links: if you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That is how the site pays for itself.
What that does not buy is a place in an article. Manufacturers do not see our reviews before publication, cannot pay for a ranking, and cannot have a criticism removed. If a product is worse than a cheaper alternative, we say so — including when the cheaper one earns us less. The full terms are on our affiliate disclosure page.
What we will not do
- Rank a product we have not used.
- Publish a "top 10" padded out with items we know nothing about.
- Accept payment, free product, or a bonus commission rate in exchange for a position or a rating.
Where we have not tested enough of a category to rank it — gaming desks right now — we say that on the page instead of filling it in.
